Advocacy - what is it and how to achieve it?

Both systemic and self-advocacy are important in changing the way people with experience of mental illness are seen by the public, mental health services and families and friends. However, real skills of advocacy are not often taught or realized by consumers. This course aims to provide the skills for individuals to advocate for either themselves or for others, at all levels.

Participants of this workshop will:
  • Gain an understanding of advocacy – what it is and what it is not
  • Gain an understanding of the use of power dynamics in gaining control of situations
  • Develop basic skills in assertiveness and problem-solving
  • Be introduced to the concept of systemic advocacy and how consumers can advocate together to bring about systemic change

To enquire about when this workshop is next delievered please fill out the enrolment/registration form or email us at info@blueprint.co.nz
