Challenging Behaviours
The Mental Health environment provides numerous challenges to workers. Dealing with situations where people are extremely stressed, and the possibility that a situation could result in harm are probably the most difficult to manage. This workshop will examine the most effective de-escalation techniques as well as identifying our own personal and professional resources to gain confidence when dealing with challenging situations in the work setting.
Objectives:
- The facts versus the fallacy of harm in a mental health setting
- Addressing personal perceptions and responses to behaviours that may challenge workers
- The role of prevention and self-awareness when assessing potential challenges
- Developing skills and strategies for dealing with challenging situations.
- Introduce the Calming and Restraint National Standards.
