David Geoffery Freeman

David Geoffrey Freeman BSc, DipEd, BEd, MEd, DipClinHyp, MAPS, MACE, FACPCP
Chief Executive Officer, Australian Psychologists Press

David Freeman is an Australian-based psychologist with over 25 years' experience in the helping professions and human resource consulting. He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, a member of its College of Clinical Psychologists and a founding member of the Australian College of Private Consulting Psychologists.

He worked as a trained secondary teacher in government and private schools before commencing his training as a psychologist with the Victorian Education Department. He was in charge of deaf and visually handicapped services for the department before commencing as a consultant psychologist.

For over 12 years, he conducted a private practise, seeing children, adults and couples with a wide range of presenting problems. He has worked as a consultant for Bouverie Clinic; he consulted to the South Australian Minister for Education, establishing its overseas secondary school recruitment systems and now concentrates on consulting to business organisations. He also worked for two years as a part-time court counsellor in the Family Court of Australia and has appeared in courts as an expert witness.

He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Australian Psychologists Press (APP) and its S.E. Asian counter-part, Asianic Psychologists Press. Since 1988, APP has distributed and trained people in the use of psychological instruments including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® and the California Psychological Inventory. Within Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the People's Republic of China, David is responsible for accrediting and registering approved MBTI administrators.

He is also an accredited administrator of Benchmarks®, (a 360 degree feedback instrument) having trained at the Centre for Creative Leadership (CCL) under Dr Maxine Dalton. APP acquired the distribution rights for CCL products for Australia and New Zealand in 1998 and is now responsible for accrediting people to use Benchmarks.


David's clients have included the Australian Taxation Office, Telstra, Centrelink, The Victorian Government Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Victorian Country Fire Authority, Mt Eliza Business School, Rio Tinto, the Australian Federal Police and many independent schools throughout Australia. He has worked extensively with local council staff including the Cities of Boroondara, Yarra and Whitehorse. He is a regular guest presenter at the Australian Institute of Police Management.

David has a long association with Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong and has been working in the region for over 10 years. He is also a consultant to INTAN - the Malaysian National Institute of Public Administration and is a consultant to the Business School of the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and a member of its international advisory board.

As the managing director of Independent Testing Services of Australia Pty Ltd (ITSA), David heads another company, that provides assessments (both pencil-and-paper and internet-based) to schools for scholarship purposes, and to recruitment agencies ITSA and DFA have a strategic alliance with Hays Personnel Services, an international recruitment firm, providing psychological appraisals to their clients throughout Australia.

David has had a long-term interest in the professional practice of psychology and was one-time chairman of the APS Committee for Health Rebates for Psychologists. For three years, he had a regular timeslot on the Terry Lane Show on 3LO, discussing community psychology issues and now takes a keen interest in the ethical and professional practice of psychology.
