Consumer Advisor Training Programme contributions to the sector

Learning set presentations

One of the most difficult tasks of the Consumer Advisor Training Programme involves reporting on a pre-chosen topic to a panel of experts. The quality of reports in 2009 was high and they have provided a great contribution to the sector.

The group made up of Paul Burns, Hayley Theyers, Kelly Ware, Tara Trounson and Mary Maringikura Campbell was awarded the best presentation of the programme. The panel felt their research was insightful and highly developed research and the innovative drama presentation was exceptional. Their presentation - “The Mental Health and Addictions sector should ne’er the twain meet' included a winning report and PowerPoint presentation.

The Leadership Award (Consumer Advisor Training Programme)

The Consumer Advisor Training Programme Leadership Award recognises the participant who showed the greatest leadership capability within and throughout the training programme.

The winner of the 2009 Leadership Award (Consumer Advisor Training Programme) was Barbara Georgeson. The panel described Barbara has having "honesty, humility and passion - not always the easiest parts of leadership to maintain, as well as an amazing intellect, incredible resilience and a fantastic sense of humour."

Nominees were evaluated on their individual commitment to the training programme, workshop tasks and use of the Knowledge Journal as a reflection tool. In the final task participants were asked to present on the topic: Using the personal and professional development you have undertaken during the Consumer Advisor Training Programme, describe your ideal vision of a consumer leadership role which enhances the development of mental health and addiction services
