Consumer Advisor Training
Welcome to the Blueprint Consumer Advisor Training Programme

The Blueprint Consumer Advisor Training Programme is designed to meet the needs of individuals working in a Consumer Advisor role within both NGO and DHB mental health and addictions services.
This is the first time that the Blueprint programme has been offered in New Zealand and offers a unique opportunity to enhance and build upon the skills that Consumer Advisors bring to their role.
The Consumer Advisor Training Programme will:
- Focus on the Consumer Advisor role within the mental health and addictions sector.
- Develop and cultivate participants key skill areas with regard to carrying out the Consumer Advisor role at an advanced level.
- Build on and augment the participants' current skills and knowledge, utilising this to enhance professional development.
- Inspire, challenge and educate through engagement and collaboration with talented and experienced facilitation and training.
- Promote networking, connections and consumer community awareness.
- Advance the value and significant contribution of the Consumer Advisor role within the mental health and addictions sector.
The training programme will cover four theme areas:
- Personal skills
- Communication skills
- Professionals skills
- Management skills
Within these skills areas, a range of topics will be offered including:
- the Consumer Advisor role: ethics and values of your role
- the Different working environments i.e. NGO and DHB, mental health and addictions
- working with divided loyalties and role strain
- assessing your own working style
- using your story wisely and well
- critical thinking
- supervision - how to use it effectively
- strategic thinking and communicating
- developing a community awareness and rapport
- advanced presentation skills
- systemic advocacy
- values based leadership
- change management and Influence building

Learning Sets
Networking and the development of supportive peer relationships is an integral part of the learning experience, and a successful Consumer Advisor. To encourage the development of these skills and to enhance the learning from the programme, a group project in the form of learning sets will be a key component of the training programme.

Admission
No formal educational qualification is necessary; all applications will be assessed based on your work and life experience and commitment to the programme.
