Programme Aims

The Executive Leadership and Management Programmes aim to:

  • develop participants leadership capability through an understanding of personal and academic leadership and management styles
  • expose participants to key skill areas required for management and leadership roles within the mental health and addictions sector
  • provide a forum to update and inform key mental health and addictions developments
  • stimulate, challenge and educate through exposure to national and international speakers
  • foster a culture of professional development for the sector
  • encourage networking, peer mentoring and support structures
  • promote sustainable leadership outcomes

The programme will cover:

  • self awareness, personal growth and goal application
  • culture and leadership
  • political awareness and its significance in leadership in the sector
  • change management
  • managing for results including building high performing cultures, identifying stakeholders, understanding the relationship between knowledge, management and performance and decision making
  • real skills
  • health budgeting
  • reflective leadership
  • better and promising practice
  • organisational outcomes
  • workforce development and competencies.

Throughout the programme, participants will be encouraged to consider and apply the following key areas:

  • consumer perspectives
  • cultural perspectives
  • clinical perspectives
  • service and organisational perspectives
  • family/whanau and community perspectives.
